Freedom, Fun, and Faith: IGNITE Youth Camp 2025

This summer, our IGNITE high school and college students stepped away from the busyness of city life and into a week of freedom, fun, and faith-filled encounters with Jesus. For many of them, this was more than just a trip out of San Francisco—it was a chance to breathe deeply, rest fully, and be reminded that they are deeply loved by God.

From the moment we arrived, the energy was contagious. There was laughter echoing through the cabins, friendly competition on the volleyball court, and the shared wonder of worship. But more than the activities, what made this week so transformative were the moments of presence. Our BJM team intentionally carved out space to simply be with students—to listen to their stories, encourage their dreams, and pray with them in ways that spoke directly to where they were in life.

One of the most meaningful parts of camp every year is our foot washing service. Rooted in John 13, when Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, this tradition reminds us that leadership in God’s Kingdom is marked by humility, service, and love. Each student has the opportunity to sit and receive as their peers and leaders gently wash their feet and speak words of life over them—reminding them of who they are in Christ, calling out their gifts, and affirming the good work God is doing in their lives. It’s a sacred moment, often met with tears, as students hear encouragement they may have never received before. Over and over, we see how the act of foot washing disarms walls, heals wounds, and makes the love of Jesus tangible.

We saw God move in powerful ways. Some students found the courage to forgive. Others opened up about struggles they had never shared before. Many encountered a fresh sense of God’s nearness, realizing that His presence is not limited to church buildings or Sunday services—it’s with them in every moment.

As one student shared, “This week was a reminder to let go of things and not let my past define me. I was reminded of my calling and how loving and gracious God is.”

For our students, getting out of the city mattered. Over and over, they told us how grateful they were to leave behind cramped apartments, noisy streets, and the constant pressure of family expectations. Surrounded by the beauty of nature, they experienced the joy of slowing down, the safety of a Christ-centered community, and the encouragement of friends and leaders who want to see them flourish.

Camp reminded us of something we hold dear at BJM: transformation often happens when we are present—fully present with God, with one another, and with ourselves. Whether it’s around a campfire, during a late-night conversation, or in the quiet of a morning prayer, presence creates room for healing and hope to take root.

We’re so thankful for every person who made this week possible—for those who gave financially, for those who prayed, and for those who serve faithfully all year in IGNITE. Your investment is building brighter futures, one relationship at a time. And while camp is over, the story isn’t. The seeds planted in the mountains will continue to grow in the heart of the city—because God’s presence goes with us, and His work in these young lives is just beginning.
