God Does Hear Our Prayers: A Christmas Story of Hope

Posted by Because Justice Matters | Christmas in July 2025

A Mother. A Prayer. A Bible.

For one mother connected to BJM, a quiet prayer turned into an unforgettable moment of answered hope.

She’s a stay-at-home mom of five, caring for two toddlers full-time while her husband works to support their family. Finances are tight, and like many moms, her needs often come last. Her days are full—feeding, cleaning, loving—and rarely leave space for her own spiritual growth.

But in the midst of the busyness, something had been stirring in her heart:

“I want to know God more... I just don’t know where to begin.”

Isolated, But Not Forgotten

Though she couldn’t attend our Family Christmas Party last December—her toddler had fallen ill—she remained closely connected to us through our Pastoral Care visits. Her eldest daughter had been part of our youth programs for years, and that connection made her feel seen and supported, even from home.

In a quiet moment over tea, she shared a deep desire with one of our team members:

“I’ve been praying for a Bible, but it’s just not something we can afford right now.”

It wasn’t a complaint. It was a prayer wrapped in quiet hope—something she didn’t expect anyone else to carry with her.

A Christmas Gift She Never Expected

Since she missed the party, we brought Christmas to her.

We sat at her kitchen table, unwrapping the family’s holiday basket together. She smiled at the thoughtful items for her kids. But when we gently handed her the final gift—a Spanish-language Bible, donated by one of our church partners—she broke down in tears.

“This is the best gift... I’ve been praying for this,” she said, her voice trembling.

She cradled the Bible in her hands and slowly ran her fingers across the cover, again and again.

“God really does hear and answer my prayers,” she said.
“I can’t wait to tell my mom.”

Why This Story Matters

This moment didn’t happen by accident. It happened because someone like you gave generously during our Christmas campaign. It happened because the BJM community believes that meeting spiritual needs is just as important as meeting physical ones.

And it’s why we’re running our Christmas in July Campaign—to raise the support needed to keep moments like this possible.
