WildFlour: Where Growth Meets the Table
👀Sneak Peek Inside This Season’s Azul Leadership Cohort 👀
At Because Justice Matters, we believe leadership begins with identity — with knowing who you are, who God made you to be, and how your unique gifts can bless the world around you.
That’s the heartbeat of our Azul Leadership Development Program, a 9-month journey for young adults ages 18–24 who are ready to grow in faith, confidence, and purpose. Through mentoring, discipleship, and our creative social enterprise, WildFlour, Azul invites students to explore what it means to lead from a place of wholeness.
This cohort includes two young college students, along with Lula, a returning student apprentice who completed her first year and now serves as a facilitator and peer leader. Together, they’re learning to live as God’s beloved — each uniquely different, yet deeply loved.
🌸 Discovering the Beauty of Difference
Early in the season, the cohort began with a simple but profound truth: We are all the same in that we are the beloved of God, yet each of us is uniquely created.
Week after week, that idea has been unfolding in conversation and community through journaling, prayer, and moments of laughter around shared meals. The students are beginning to see that their differences are not obstacles but reflections of God’s creativity and purpose.
Azul is a place where spiritual formation meets real life. Between reflections on Scripture and identity, students also learn practical skills like budgeting, communication, and time management. And often, those practical lessons become moments of revelation.
💛 Generosity vs. Obligation
During one recent session on financial literacy, a discussion about “how to make a budget” turned into something much deeper — a conversation about generosity.
The students began reflecting on their experiences with money. Whether learned or absorbed, many realized that generosity had often been tied to feelings of “I have to give” rather than “I get to give.” Together, they began to ask what it might look like to live generously out of freedom, gratitude, and love rather than obligation or guilt.
At BJM, that’s something we hope to cultivate in every area of life — from our students and volunteers to our team and supporters. Generosity isn’t just something we teach; it’s a way of being. Being generous people is a reflection of God’s own heart.
🍕 WildFlour: Where Growth Meets the Table
That same spirit of generosity takes on a delicious, tangible form through WildFlour Pizza — BJM’s social enterprise that turns ordinary gatherings into something extraordinary.
When someone books a WildFlour Pop-Up, our Azul students plan, prep, and host the entire event — crafting handmade pizzas, welcoming guests, and creating a space where good food meets good purpose. It’s a hands-on way to grow in leadership, communication, and confidence. This is the kind of growth that can’t be learned in a classroom but has to be embodied and practiced.
“You can see their confidence growing with every event,” Jason, Azul-WildFlor Director, says in a recent conversation. “They’re learning to take charge, to lead with joy, and to bring creativity to the table — literally.”
It’s been especially powerful to watch Lula step into her new leadership role this year as she helps guide others, as she herself continues to grow. Her story embodies what Azul is all about: developing, empowering, and releasing the next generation of BJM leaders.
