One day as Rachael was sitting on the street with all of her manicure supplies set up, Chantel stopped, taken off gaurd by what she saw. Rachael asked her if she would like a manicure, and Chantel agreed.
In the half hour that Chantel sat there, she started to spill out her life story, telling Rachael that she was originally from Rhode Island, that her daughter was still there, and that she had not seen her in 5 years. Her daughter didn't know her current situation: disabled and homeless in the Tenderloin, and constantly facing violence. She couldn't face the disappointment of her daughter.
Rachael prayed with Chantel, encouraged her to connect with her daughter again, and talked about some resources she could potentially utilize here in the neighborhood.
One more day, one more woman, and one more chance to impact and change her life. We hope that Chantel was encouraged to contact her daughter and is one day closer to wholeness.
