Domestic Violence

Statistics from within faith communities reveal that domestic violence occurs within the faith community at the same rates as elsewhere. Therefore it is imperative that faith leaders embrace the resources available to help change this fact, both through direct contact with the victim and by establishing a community culture of non-violence. These leaders have an am amazing opportunity to not only help victims but also interact with their abusers.

Religious teachings and scriptures can often be taken out of context or be twisted by abusers in order to maintain control over their partner. Speaking out against violence and abuse within the home sends a message to abusers that violence is contrary to scripture. It also offers hope to the victim that the faith community can once again be safe place for people in need.
